Held by the Tide: What the Light in Montauk Showed Me
Scent Trail – Episode 5: Montauk
There are moments in life that don’t announce themselves.
They arrive like tides, soft, steady, inevitable. Montauk was one of them.
After months of burning, rebuilding, and moving through grief, I came here needing nothing in particular. Just space. Just air. Just water. And what I found was light, not the kind that saves, but the kind that simply stays.

The Sea Held What Fire Left Behind
By the time I reached the edge of the land, I was tired. The kind of tired that doesn’t ask to be fixed, just witnessed.
And that’s what Montauk did. The sea held what fire left behind: salt on skin, ash in the wind, a silence that didn’t need to explain itself.
There was no pressure to perform. No urgency to heal. Only a gentle sense that whatever remained was enough.
The Lighthouse Doesn’t Rescue, It Remembers
There’s a lighthouse at the edge of Montauk Point, stoic, weathered, unwavering. It doesn’t chase the lost. It doesn’t cry out. It simply turns. Again and again. A rhythm of remembrance.
When I climbed to the top, each step felt like a small release. Stone worn by years. Spiral after spiral. Each one shedding a version of me that no longer needed to be carried.
And at the top, a new lens met the world. Everything softened. Everything sharpened.

The Light Teaches in Silence
This episode of Scent Trail is quieter than the rest. There is no fire here. No collapse. No seduction. Just space. And the slow realization that you don’t have to be whole to be seen. You just have to keep turning toward the light.
How Montauk Lives in My Work
After Montauk, I began honoring rest more deeply in my practice. In the way I guide workshops with fewer words. In the way I design fragrances that are clean, briny, soft like fog.
In the way I allow scent to hold space for people who don’t want answers, just presence.
Some of our most subtle, salt-air inspired blends now carry the spirit of this coast. The ache of what’s ending. The permission to simply be.
An Invitation to Turn Toward the Light
If you’re in between things, between stories, between identities, between versions of yourself, this episode is for you.
Let the sea hold you. Let the light witness you. You don’t have to be found to belong.
